When developers develop and release the final version of a game to the public, it isn’t necessarily the best version of the game. It is basically the version that they feel is the most stable, stable enough for public use. This is why there are usually updates after a release in which bugs are fixed and various optimizations are introduced.

However, sometimes these fixes and optimizations don’t always come from the developers themselves. Take for example Rockstar’s GTA Online in which thanks to the efforts of Github user tostercx, they have discovered a way to improve GTA Online’s loading times by as much as 70%.

The user released the fix as a proof of concept and it seems that the folks at Rockstar picked up on it and liked it so much they plan on releasing it officially for all players. In a statement made to PCGamer, “After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that player t0st did, in fact, reveal an aspect of the game code related to load times for the PC version of GTA Online that could be improved. As a result of these investigations, we have made some changes that will be implemented in a forthcoming title update.”

Rockstar also seems to have paid tostercx a bounty of $10,000 for the tip. This bounty is part of Rockstar’s Bug Bounty program usually reserved for security and privacy issues, but the developers decided to award them anyway as an exception.
