The OnePlus Watch will be revealed in the next couple of days, but it seems that OnePlus has been steadily releasing more information about the watch ahead of its launch, one of which is the operating system of choice, where OnePlus will not be using Google’s Wear OS and will instead feature its own custom platform.

When asked by a customer as to whether or not the OnePlus Watch will run Wear OS, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau replied by saying, “When developing the OnePlus Watch, we tried to understand the pain points for a smart watch wearer. We chose to go with a smart wear operating system developed based on RTOS because we believe it provides you a smooth and reliable experience while offering a great battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we’ve been hearing from people looking to buy a smartwatch.”

Wear OS is used by quite a number of smartwatches out there, although there are still quite a number of wearables that do run their own custom platform. Some might lament the lack of Wear OS because this means that they might have access to less apps, but typically speaking, most smartwatches tend to be pretty good right out of the box already.

Samsung did try to use its own custom platform for a while, but we have heard that they are planning on debuting a Wear OS smartwatch, so maybe OnePlus could follow in their footsteps for future models, but don’t get your hopes up just yet.
