When you press certain keys on your keyboard, they perform certain tasks. There are also certain shortcuts built into your operating system like how CTRL+C is copy and CTRL+V is paste. However, for the most part these shortcuts are fixed, but Google could be looking to change things.

According to a report from Chrome Story, they have discovered that Google is testing out the possibility of allowing users to create their own custom keyboard shortcuts. From what we can see in the screenshot, there are certain keys that Google is letting users customize and perform a different action than originally intended.

We’re not sure if this is going to it or if Google is simply testing it out with a limited number of keys before expanding to cover more. It will be interesting to allow users to customize their own shortcuts. With other platforms like Windows, users would have needed to download and use third-party apps to remap or reassign the keys on their keyboard, so having an official method built into the OS itself is welcome.

There is also no word on when it will be released or if it will even be released to the public, so do keep an eye out for it if this sounds like something you might be interested in.
