Late last year, Apple finally launched their first wave of Mac computers powered by the M1 Apple Silicon chipset. This is part of Apple’s two-year plan in which they will make the full transition to Apple Silicon in place of Intel, and it seems to be a strategy that is working out well for the company.
This is according to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, who during the company’s Spring Loaded event on the 20th of April revealed that the company is apparently selling more M1 Macs than Intel-based models. However, while these claims are impressive, there are several things that should be taken into consideration.
It is possible that customers are holding back on buying Intel Macs now that there are new M1 models, which in turn would see an increase in M1 Mac sales. Also, given that the models Apple transitioned first are the entry-level models, it’s kind of to be expected. What will be interesting is to see how Apple will handle its more “Pro” models and if the Apple Silicon has what it takes to compete against higher-end and more powerful Intel CPUs and also discrete GPUs from AMD.
However, at least for now, we suppose it is kind of a victory for Apple. Many were initially worried about Apple’s new strategy, but based on these comments, it appears that things are looking up for the company.
