Now that Flash has officially reached its end of life, it seems that Microsoft will also be taking more proactive steps in removing it from Windows 10 computers. This is according to an updated blog post on Microsoft’s website where they revealed that they will include a Flash Player removal tool in Windows 10 patches starting this summer.

According to Microsoft, “Starting in June 2021, the KB4577586 “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player” will be included in the Preview Update for Windows 10, version 1809 and above platforms. It will also be included in every subsequent Latest Cumulative Update.”

The company also adds, “As of July 2021, the KB4577586 “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player” will be included in the Latest Cumulative Update for Windows 10, versions 1607 and Windows 10, version 1507. The KB will also be included in the Monthly Rollup and the Security Only Update for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Embedded 8 Standard.”

It should be noted that Microsoft had previously introduced a Flash Player removal tool in a Windows update. However, that was a completely optional update that can be downloaded via Microsoft Catalog, meaning that if users did not know or still want to keep Flash Player around, they can. However, the latest announcement from Microsoft will make the removal tool part of its mandatory updates, which means that this summer, Flash should be removed from all Windows 10 computers.
