As with most social media platforms, Twitter has a verification feature that basically identifies people on Twitter who might need to have a verified account, like a politician, a company/brand, journalists, researchers, and so on. The idea is that since these accounts are verified, whatever they say that might represent themselves will be more legit.

Twitter did suspend their verification program last year with a promise to bring it back this year, which according to researcher Jane Manchun Wong, could be relaunching next week. The researcher claims that she was told by multiple sources that the feature could be staging a comeback the following week, which is good news for those who have been looking to get their accounts verified.

However, the program’s comeback will be slightly different from before. Users will now be able to submit requests to Twitter through a form that will help them get their verified badge. Based on the screenshots Wong shared, this includes identifying yourself and your profession, links to articles from reputable sources that mentions you, along with a submission of your government issued identification.

That being said, it should be noted that not all requests will be granted. However, the streamlined process will make it easier for you to submit your request if you need to be verified. We can’t confirm if it will really launch next week, but if you’ve been looking forward to this, then check back with us for more details.
