Google, Apple, Amazon Team Up For ‘Matter’ Smart Home Alliance
[ad_1]
This is because Apple, Google, and Amazon have announced the Matter smart home alliance. This alliance actually came together back in 2019 where it was known as CHIP, but it has since been rebranded to Matter and the first Matter-certified products are expected to arrive later this year.
In order for devices to be certified by Matter, they will need to adopt a new royalty-free standard that will essentially make it compatible across platforms such as Amazon’s Alexa Smart Home, Apple’s HomeKit, and Google’s Weave protocols. This alliance is great news not just for consumers, but also developers who might previously have been annoyed and frustrated at having to develop for multiple platforms.
According to Tobin Richardson, the CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, “As these different devices become more complex networks, it’s all the more important that they’re all talking the same language,” Richardson said. “That mark will be a helping hand to make sure that you can add whatever lightbulbs, whatever door locks, whatever you want to add.”
