A 40-Core Apple Silicon Powered Mac Pro Could Be In The Works
[ad_1]
When Apple announced their plan to transition away from Intel to their own Apple Silicon chipsets, many have wondered what this could mean for Apple’s Pro computers like the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro, both of which are typically used by various professionals who need the horsepower that the computers can put out.
While the M1 chipset has demonstrated it is more than capable, is it truly Pro worthy? Maybe not, which is why a report from Bloomberg has revealed that Apple is apparently developing on an Apple Silicon that would feature as many as 40-cores that would then be used for computers like the Mac Pro.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the devices have been codenamed Jade 2C-Die and Jade 4C-Die and are said to come in either 20-core or 40-core variants. This would consist of 16 and 32 high-performance cores respectively, and 4 or 8 high-efficiency cores respectively. The chips are also said to feature as many as 128 cores for graphics, which sounds rather insane on paper.
Unfortunately, professionals who might be excited at the possibility will have to wait because Apple is reportedly only planning on launching the new Mac Pro in 2022. Like we said, the number of cores is crazy and since not much is known now, we’ll just have to wait for an official announcement by Apple on how they plan on justifying their new hardware.
