Right now, Apple and Epic are facing each other in a lawsuit in which Epic is trying to prove their point in which the 30% cut that Apple takes from developers is simply too much. They have also managed to gather a bunch of other developers who feel strongly about this cut as well, but if there is one developer who has publicly stood behind Apple, it would be Snap.

In a recent episode on CNBC’s TechCheck, Snap’s CEO Evan Spiegel said that the company was more than happy to pay the “Apple tax”, which is the 30% cut that Apple takes from developers from the sale of apps or in-app purchases.

Spiegel was quoted as saying, “We really feel like Snapchat wouldn’t exist without the iPhone and without the amazing platform that Apple has created. In that sense, I’m not sure we have a choice about paying the 30% fee, and of course, we’re happy to do it in exchange for all of the amazing technology that they provide to us in terms of the software but also in terms of their hardware advancements.”

He goes on to add, “We’re really aligned with them on the changes they’re making to help protect privacy. And so far, the early investments we made starting almost 10 years ago to protect user privacy on our platform are really paying off.” Of course, there are two sides to every argument, so we’ll have to wait for the trial to come to an end to see how this plays out for Apple.
