Back in November 2020, Spotify officially released a standalone app for the Apple Watch. However, it wasn’t a “complete” app because unlike the smartphone version, the Apple Watch version did not allow for downloads or support offline playback. This meant that you would still require an internet connection, which means either you bring your iPhone with you or you have the cellular Apple Watch model.

For those hoping for a less data-intensive experience, you’re in luck because Spotify has since announced an update to its Apple Watch app where it will now support music downloads for offline playback. Of course, this will require that users have a Spotify Premium account since downloads and offline playback are features of Premium.

According to Spotify, “Starting today, we’re rolling out the ability to download your favorite playlists, albums, and podcasts on Apple Watch. All users are already able to play tracks, albums, playlists, and podcasts, and now Premium users will also be able to download everything they’re listening to for a true offline and phone-free experience. This is on top of all the other Spotify features on Apple Watch—from Connect & Control to streaming to Siri.”

That being said, we should point out that the Apple Watch Series 6 has a max capacity of 32GB, so if you have particularly huge libraries, you might want to keep an eye out on your storage.
