Google Kills Off Its Augmented Reality Measure App
[ad_1]
Apple’s iOS platform has an app called Measure that uses augmented reality to help you measure the dimensions of objects or even the heights of people, but did you know that Google also has their own Measure app? The app has been around for a while but not many might be aware of its existence, which is a pity since it will now be killed off.
Google has confirmed that they will be killing off the Measure app and have also removed it from the Play Store. The good news is that if you were aware of the app and had downloaded it before or are still using it, you can keep using it without any issues, at least while it continues to work. Since Google won’t be updating or supporting it anymore, it’s hard to say if future versions of Android could result in the app breaking its functionality.
In a statement released to XDA Developers, a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying, “We’re no longer able to support ongoing maintenance for the Measure app. Instead, we recommend trying one of the many alternatives available on the Play Store.” We’re not sure why Google has decided to kill off the app, but then again Google does do this from time to time so it’s not that surprising.
However, according to the comments, it seems that quite a number of people had issues with the app and claimed it wasn’t very accurate. Either way, if you’re after an AR-based measuring app, you’ll now have to look elsewhere.
