Google’s Statement On Its Wear Platform Eligibility Has Us Worried
[ad_1]
However, the bad news is that there is a chance your current smartwatch might not support it. This is according to a statement released to XDA in which a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying, “User experience is a top priority for us. We have not confirmed eligibility or timeline on whether any Wear OS smartwatch will update to the new unified platform. There are many technical requirements in order to run the unified platform that ensures all components of the user experience are optimized.”
Google’s statement was actually in response to the article which reported that Qualcomm had said that its 3-year old Snapdragon Wear 3100 and newer 4100 and 4100+ chipsets can support the new Wear platform, which gave us some hope that even older Wear OS smartwatches could be upgraded to the new Wear operating system.
However, Google’s statement seems to suggest that maybe that might not be the case. Either way it’s something we have no choice but to wait and find out, but here’s hoping that Google won’t be abandoning its older Wear OS users.
