A few years ago, Apple made some minor revisions to the Apple Watch design where they gave it a slightly larger display, but for the most part, the body remained the same. Given that 2021 will bring the Series 7, making it about 6 years since the Apple Watch was first launched, it seems that Apple will finally be introducing a new design.

According to leakster Jon Prosser, he revealed during an episode of the Genius Bar podcast with Sam Kohl that a redesign of the Apple Watch is in the works. While Prosser said that he would share more details and possibly even renders of the watch in the future, he teased that it could share a similar look to other Apple product updates.

This has led to speculation that he means that the Apple Watch could end up sporting flat edges instead of the rounded ones it used in the past. In a way this makes sense. The Apple Watch’s rounded edges used to match Apple’s iPhone and iPad designs, but now with Apple shifting to flat edges, as evidenced in the iPhone 12, the iPad Pro, and the new 24-inch iMac, we wouldn’t be surprised if they applied that design to the Apple Watch as well.

It will be interesting to see what this redesigned Apple Watch could look like so hopefully we’ll see those renders soon. In the meantime, there have been rumors claiming that one of the features we can expect to see in this year’s model could be a non-invasive blood glucose monitor which would be pretty exciting if true.
