Apple Explains Why Its New Apple TV Remote Does Not Have ‘Find My’ Capabilities

When Apple launched their new Apple TV last month, they also unveiled a brand new Apple TV remote. Unlike the previous gen model, this one brings back the tactile feeling of pressing buttons when trying to navigate the screen, versus the old model that used a trackpad like surface which honestly felt very slippery and overly sensitive.

However, oddly enough, Apple did not include the “Find My” feature to the remote, especially on the back of the launch of the AirTag and Apple opening up its Find My network. It seemed like a weird choice to make since remote controls would actually be the ideal device to have these kinds of capabilities, but during an interview with MobileSyrup, Apple’s vice president of product marketing for home and audio Tim Twerdahl explained why.

According to Twerdahl, the reason why is because the new remote is thicker and as such, Apple believed that losing it would not be as easy. “With the changes we’ve made to the Siri Remote — including making it a bit thicker so it won’t fall in your couch cushions as much — that need to have all these other network devices find it seems a little bit lower.”

We’re not sure that’s true since we’ve all probably lost or misplaced even bigger remotes, but that’s Apple’s justification. That being said, there are third-party 3D printed cases that lets you slip in an AirTag if you really need Find My functionality.
