According to the rumors, one of the biggest changes coming to the iPhone this year would be the introduction of an LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It was initially thought that the use of LTPO displays were to help offset the potential energy drain from the 120Hz refresh rate, but it turns out it might be more efficient than we thought.

A new report from DigiTimes has reiterated that the iPhone 13 will indeed come with a 120Hz refresh rate and that because of the use of LTPO displays, it could even result in a lower energy consumption of 15-20% compared to that of the iPhone 12 Pro series. Apparently this is due to the possibility that the 120Hz refresh rate on the iPhone being an adaptive one.

This means that instead of the display using a fixed refresh rate of 120Hz, it will vary and can change between a lower rate to a higher rate depending on what is needed. We also expect that with the A15 chipset which will most likely introduce better energy efficiency, the iPhone 13 could end up lasting longer than the iPhone 12.

Obviously none of this can be confirmed yet so it’s probably best not to take these reports so seriously until Apple officially announces the phones, which last we heard is still on track for September later this year.
